Neurocosmetics: Greentech Wins the 2026 IFSCC Applied Research Award.
At the 36th Congress of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC), held in Perth, Australia, Greentech was awarded the IFSCC Applied Research Award for its research into interactions between the nervous system and the skin, with a particular focus on the mechanisms involved in hyperpigmentation.
Conducted in collaboration with LabSkin Creations, this research is based on an innovative 3D reconstructed human skin model that is pigmented and neuro-mimetic. Until now, research into hyperpigmentation (dark spots) has focused primarily on melanocytes and keratinocytes. This study goes further by demonstrating that our nervous system plays a direct role in the localized overproduction of melanin. The research has highlighted the role of a neuronal signal, RGMB, in the mechanisms underlying skin pigmentation and aging.
This research has notably led to the development of ILUMYS®, a natural active ingredient designed to effectively target different types of pigmentation spots and promote a brighter, more even complexion.
It also opens up an entirely new avenue for anti-aging dermo-cosmetics. By understanding the mechanisms of RGMB signaling at the tissue level, Greentech can now design active ingredients capable of acting upstream, by “calming” the neuronal message before it even stimulates the epidermal pigmentary unit. This marks the emergence of cutting-edge neurocosmetics: highly targeted and biologically respectful of the skin.
